Taormina: a little town between greek myth and luxurious shopping store

Allow yourself to get lost in the alleys of Corso Umberto, the main street of the town is a friendly maze of small and charming cafes, restaurants, interesting shops, stone houses, and antiques. One of Taormina’s great pride is undoubtedly the Greek theater, the second-largest in Sicily. We suggest you see a show in the Theater, with a breath-taking seaview and Mount Etna over the shoulder.
Taormina is easily reachable from the Marina di Riposto Porto dell’Etna in 30 minutes.
Mount Etna
This is Sicily’s greatest natural attraction and also its highest mountain, maybe you know it. On the eastern coast of Sicily, nowadays an UNESCO World Heritage site, Mount Etna will offer you an extraordinary experience.
It is one of the world’s most active volcanoes, and the most active one in Europe. The height of its summit changes with each eruption, and although over the centuries a few lava flows have reached the coast, it is one of Sicily’s main tourist attractions. Mt. Etna offers skiing holidays in the winter months and breathtaking hikes in the woods during the summer. For those who want to try a funny and adventurous experience: let’s visit it by riding a quad bike.
Aeolian Islands
Formed by volcanic activity, the Aeolian Islands are seven small inhabited islands surrounded by the Tyrrhenian Sea in the north of Sicily: Lipari, Vulcano, Salina, Stromboli, Filicudi, Alicudi and Panarea. The largest island is Lipari, where you can taste an excellent Malvasia sweet wine; but it’s very attractive to try the opportunity to hike up to the craters of Vulcano and Stromboli, the still active volcanoes of the archipelago.
Each island has its particularity, memorable will be the sunset in Salina on the Pollara bay reachable only by the sea. Furthermore, after the sunset, you can fully enjoy a special dinner at Cusiritati restaurant in Panarea, live the nightlife and in the end enjoy the starry sky.
Alicudi and Filicudi are the perfect destination for a romantic and savage experience. The Aeolian Islands are listed by UNESCO as World Heritage Sites and are absolutely not missing destinations.
Ortigia
It is an island in Syracuse that is separated from the mainland by a characteristic narrow canal. The island is part of the old town of Syracuse and has many historical sites. Ortigia is only one square kilometer, where there are concentrated a variety of historic buildings dating to the Middle Ages and the Baroque period. We suggest you take a stroll through the narrow alleys, between pastoral courtyards rich in flower pots, shops, restaurants, and cafes in beautiful ancient buildings. Ortigia is reachable from the city, but the entrance is forbidden for cars, and from the sea too by the wet dock with maximum comfort.
A particular thing to notice: do not miss the unique artistic design that stands out in stores and shop windows – that will simply drive your imagination crazy.
